Blue Sport Wordpress Theme
Blue Sport Wordpress Theme Information:
Blue Sport has many features to have a great sport blog. Theme has a custom control panel so you can manage the theme very easily.
Important: Do not use wp-pagenavi plugin with this theme. Theme has a custom navigation function.
Blue Sport theme has custom category templates for Photos and Videos category. You can see these category templates on demo blog.
Theme Installation:
- Upload the bluesport folder to wp-content/themes,
- Upload the custom-query-string-reloaded.php in plugin folder to wp-content/plugins,
- Activate the theme and the plugin from Wordpress admin panel,
- Enter Categories under Posts menu, create a Photos category and a Videos category. Note the IDs of these categories.
You can learn the category ID by this way: Create the category, put your mouse on the category name and check the url of the category from the browser. You will see a number at the end of the url. This is the category ID.
For example: ...wp-admin/edit-tags.php?action=edit&taxonomy=category&post_type=post&tag_ID=13
Category ID is 13 in this example.
Enter Blue Sport Theme Options under Appearance,
- Fill in the fields,
- Do not forget to write the category Id of Photos and Videos.
- In theme folder, you can see 2 files: category-photos.php and category-videos.php
Change the names of these files with the category IDs that you noted.
For example, if your Photos category ID is 5, rename the category-photos.php as category-5.php
If your Videos Category Id is 17, rename the category-videos.php as category-17.php
Then, these 2 categories will have custom templates.
Plugin:
In default, wordpress shows 10 posts in categories. But as you see, photos and videos categories should show more than 10 posts.
So,
- Activate the "Custom Query String Reloaded" plugin and enter Settings/CQS.
- Select the Photos category and write 20 or 30 in Show field. Then click the Add button on right. Do it for the Videos category, too.
Now, your normal categories will show 10 posts in category pages, but Photos and Videos will show 30 posts in category pages.
Adding Posts:
- Enter Posts/New Posts,
- Write title, content, select category, add tags,
- You will see Thumbnail Image Url under Content part. Write here the image url that will be the thumbnail on homepage near post. Use jpg files and start with http://
- If you want the post in Slider, fill in the "If it is a Featured Post" field, too.
- Publish the post.
Menus:
You should use wordpress 3.x.
- Go to Menus under Appearance
- On right, big part, write a menu title. For example, mytopmenu and click Save Menu on top right of the part,
- On left select pages or categories and click the Add to Menu buttons,
- Again, click the Save Menu button on top right,
- On top left(Theme Location), select your menu for Primary Menu(this is the top menu) and click the Save button.
- Do the same things for Secondary Menu(this is the main menu of the theme).
You can use dropdown listing for Secondary Menu.
Licence:
Do not delete the links in footer. Theme is free because of that links.

latest news part does not show the posts from Photos and Videos categories. publish a new post that is not in Photos or Videos category. it will appear in latest news part.

I followed the steps you gave me. at the beginning I did not find the wp-PageNavi but I downloaded it, plus I simply remove the functions.php file in my file. I activate the theme, but the page is blue, that’s all, there’s nothing else that appears

downloasd the file, extract it. there is a bluesport folder in bluesport folder. upload it to wp-content/themes. upload the custom-query…php in plugins folder to wp-content/plugins. activate the theme.

I can’t seem to get the thumbnail to work: I have verified the link etc. When I put the link in IE it pulls the image up without issue. I have also checked to make sure it is .jpg.
Also I increased memory upto 150 – thinking maybe the image was to large and could not load thumbnail…
rules:
- images must be on your server,
- images must be jpg,
- cache folder must be 777 or 775.

Now I am using NextGen Gallery so it has a thumb nail, I have tried to link to it as well and it didn’t work.
i think you found the solution. thumbnails are working on your blog now.
I had to remove and then re-add the cache folder.
As for the footer sections:
1 – I would like to add other links to this. Such as add a privacy policy etc. What are my options here?
2 – Can you post the code or email it? I need to make sure that the theme is not leaving any spam/cookies on peoples machines.
1- you can use top menu or add a menu in sidebar.
2- i do not send the code. you can be sure that it’s clean. but if you have any doubt, you can buy the paid version of the theme or use another theme.

if you want to remove the avatars in comments, go to:
WordPress Admin Panel > Settings > Discussion
and select “Don’t show Avatars” at the bottom of the page.

i do not know where is the black screen but you can add the youtube embed code in content field:
- enter Add New Post,
- write title, add tags,
- paste the youtube video embed code in content field,
- write an image url in Thumbnail Image Url,
- choose your video category from Categories,
- publish the post.
post slider:
- you are using a page as homepage. first, you need to remove it. go to Settings-Reading and select “Your latest posts” for “Front page displays” and save it.
- while you are adding a post, if you want it to be in slider, write the image url in “If it is a Featured Post” field.

Hey, I’ve downloaded the template but the thumbnails at the right hand side don’t seem to be working. I’ve changed the permissions on the cache folder & set all links etc in the right place, any help would be grateful

What is your url?
You must use pictures on your own server and they must be jpg format.

This file uses wordpress default thumbnail feature.
Install the theme again.
While adding a post, you will see “Set featured image” link on right bottom. Click it and upload image. When it’s uploaded, you will see the details of image. At the bottom of that pop up page, click “Use as featured image” link. Now your thumbnail must be ready. If you want the post in Slider, add the image url in “If it is a Featured Post” field, too. Otherwise, publish the post.
If the thumbnails still does not work, tell your host to activate GD library.

I can’t get the featured posts to align correctly. If I put more than one, they stack on top of each other instead of being a slider and hides te content of the page.

problem is because of the lightbox plugin that you are using on your blog. deactivate it or send an email with your ftp username-password and wordpress admin panel username-password. i will fix it.

wordpress does not have a such a function. you can create posts under categories(Posts/Add New). or you can create pages(Pages/Add New).

I dont understand how to edit the home page. It seems like one of the posts is the home page. I created a page and named it home but it isnt the home page. Also can you put the pages in any kind of order on the menu. No home page came up on the menu. Im not sure if this question is making sense.
latest posts (except the posts in slider) are shown in homepage. you do not to create a page, just add posts.
you can change the order from Menus under Appearance. read “Menus” in tutorial.
Thanks! I figured that out now i have another problem. On the pages it has the latest videos and latest photos. I would like to put my own videos or photos in that spot. Right now it is automatically putting my posts into those categories. Is there anyway of just putting whatever photos and videos that i want to put there.
Also i created a home page icon but there is no home page link. I have a menu and it named all my pages but one didnt come up for the home page. How can i get a home page link on each page.

i could not understand the first question. if you published a post under Photos category, then it will be shown in Photos part.

Where do I put the code for the homepage link. You know how there are links like Contact Us, Directions, etc. I would like a button for Home. What page do i insert that code into.

if you are talking about top menu or navigation menu, you can add it from Menus under Appearance.
I’m still having a hard time trying to put a home link into the menu.
Another question I have is on the pages there are photos and videos category. Can I control what videos to put in there. It seems like what ever posts there are it puts it into the videos and photos.
Also my featured slider stopped playing. It doesnt flash the photos anymore.

Yeah, I figured that one out..sorry…but I ran into another issue..I currently have three featured posts but when I go to my site, I notice that only one image remains static..arent they supposed to rotate? If so, what am I doing wrong?

banner: which banner? if it is logo, it’s not an image. it’s a text and you can find it in header.php.

One more question…how to I change the font of my site title, as it is it’s a little hard to read.
i used cufon for the title. if you want to use your own font, learn what is cufon or
open header.php and delete the lines between 12-16(delete these lines, too). then open style.css and find
.sitetitle h1
and add this in that part:
font-family:Arial;
Arial is a sample font. you can write your font.

And one more quick thing . . . When you click on a category, it says “Archive for the Photos Category”. Can I change that to just say photos?
Open archive.php. You will see the titles. If you want to edit the Photos category only, open category-photos.php and change the title.
(you know that you changed the category-photos.php with your own photos category id.)
